Laranjeiras residence, Paraty

The Laranjeiras condominium in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro has three types of plots: The ones in front of the beach, the ones that face a marina ant the ones that face a golf course.

We had to tackle this last situation where the the plot has the shape of a slice of pizza. This led to a peculiar situation where we designed a tropical beach house facing a golf course and hills covered by the native atlantic forest: A beach house with a typical countryside view.

The concept of a “sun protective roof” was used once again, as in the “leaf house”. Prismatic volumes clad in polychromatic wood (a reference to the typical fishing boats of the region) contain all necessary enclosed spaces of the house and are arranged in a way to facilitate free circulation of the sea breeze, providing the house passive cooling.
